Group yoga classIn the aftermath of the mass shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut last month, yogis have found a way to offer support to a grieving community. Tomorrow, a yoga class will be held at Reed Intermediate School in Newtown, the proceeds of which will go to the Sandy Hook Promise Organization.

According to Yoga Journal, Yoga Dimensions yoga studio in Newtown invited author of “Meditations from the Mat: Daily Reflections on the Path of Yoga” Rolf Gates to lead a benefit class in the community. All of the suggested $40 donation for the class will go towards helping Sandy Hook Promise continue to honor those lost, promote safety and support the community.

“This is yoga off the matt,” Gates said, as stated on “What they’re doing at Sandy Hook Promise is attempting to bring more wisdom and compassion to how things operate in the community. That’s the long-term goal of every Downward Dog—to bring more wisdom and compassion to how we conduct our daily lives.”

Yogis everywhere can support Sandy Hook Promise and the members of the Newtown community by simply thinking about the message of the benefit class and incorporating it into their daily lives and interactions with others.
