Young boy drinking sodaFirst Lady Michelle Obama is looking for new ways to get kids healthy, and yoga poses an excellent option. Leah Kalish’s curriculum for kids’ yoga is currently a semi-finalist in the End Childhood Obesity Innovation Challengesponsored by the Partnership for a Healthier America, of which Mrs. Obama is chair.

Kalish’s program, Move With Me, teaches yoga and movement to children. Her goal is to help children develop “mind-body fitness, focus, socio-emotional intelligence, and self regulation — all of which are essential for learning and academic achievement,” according to her website.

Other semi-finalists include an idea for a fruit-infused water bottle to replace soda and sugary fruit drinks, and a plan for sponsoring triathlons at schools. The top-three vote getters at this stage will move on and pitch their idea to the PHA at the Building a Healthier Future Summit in Washington DC in March of this year.

PHA was founded in 2012 in conjunction with the Let’s Move! Campaign, which is dedicated to fighting childhood obesity and was created by the First Lady.
